Zap Cooking Newsletter

🔥 Founder’s Note — We’re Back. And We’re Growing.

A little over a year ago, Sarah and I launched the Zap Cooking newsletter as an experiment.

It was her idea to build this reflective layer around the brand. To connect food culture to the open web. It worked. We wrote about what we were cooking, what we were building, and what Nostr was becoming. People showed up.

Then life shifted. Sarah moved on to new things.

The newsletter paused.

Zap Cooking didn’t.

Over the last few months, the product has grown up in a serious way. We integrated one of the best Lightning wallets in the space with Breez SDK. We built custom relays. Group chats. Long form editing that feels good (I am writing this article inside it right now). AI tools for members. Faster feeds. Stronger security. A real foundation.

Now we shift from building quietly to bringing more people to the table.

Starting today, this newsletter ships every Tuesday.

Primary home: Nostr.
Extended table: Substack and X.

We are expanding the conversation. Not just for cooks, but for farmers, homesteaders, builders, and sovereign individuals who value community over algorithms. People who believe food culture should live in open systems. People who want ownership, connection, and real signal.

We believe in value for value. If something nourishes you, support it. Zap it. Share it. Contribute to it. That’s how open systems grow. If you believe in this model, consider becoming a member. It directly funds development and keeps this independent.

Last week I made gyros. I went on a hunt for proper tzatziki, finally found it, added fresh cucumbers, and it hit. It also made me realize we need more Greek recipes on Zap Cooking. More regional depth. More cultural threads woven into the network.

This newsletter is part of that.

If you want to write, contribute, share a family recipe, spotlight your farm, or bring a cultural food story to the table, we’re open. We’re building for the audience we represent. I’m getting this started again as a new chapter for Zap Cooking, but this only works if it becomes ours.

Tell us what you’re cooking this week.

Food. Friends. Freedom.

We’re back.
And we’re growing.

🍳 Recipe of the Week — Greek Spotlight + 5,000 Sat Bounty

Last week’s gyro experiment sparked something.

The hunt for proper tzatziki. The crunch of fresh cucumbers. Warm pita in hand. It reminded me that food isn’t just fuel. It’s geography, memory, and culture wrapped into something you can share.

So this week we’re highlighting a classic from the Zap Cooking archive:

✨ Baked Feta Cheese and Tomatoes

https://zap.cooking/s/e0h8gw

Simple. Honest. Mediterranean. The kind of dish that invites conversation around the table. Try it. Remix it. Or use as inspiration for your own Greek post this week.

But we want more.

More Greek recipes.
More regional depth.
More cultural threads woven into the network.

So here’s the move:

⚡ 5,000 sats to the best Greek recipe posted this week.

Post your:

  • Souvlaki

  • Spanakopita

  • Tzatziki variation

  • Greek salad

  • Moussaka

  • Or a modern remix

Tag it with #GreekOnZap.
Tell the story behind it.
Make it yours.

We’ll choose one standout recipe and zap 5,000 sats next Tuesday.

Value for value isn’t theory. It’s practice.

Let’s add some Mediterranean signal to the relay.

Signal from the network this week:

plebANON posted:

“What bear market? #foodstr”

Two perfectly cooked steaks. A bottle of red. Glasses poured. No panic. Just dinner.

This is what culture looks like when food and open money intersect.

Markets fluctuate.
Community doesn’t.

On Nostr, food posts don’t disappear into an algorithm. They get zapped. They get replied to. They become moments.

If you’re reading this on Substack or X, this is happening live on Zap Cooking and across Nostr. Food meets signal. Humor meets sats.

And yes, apparently bear markets still taste like steak

💬 This Week’s Conversation

What are you cooking this week?

Simple question. Real answers.

Post it on Zap Cooking.
Reply on Nostr.
Comment on Substack.
Tag #GreekOnZap if you’re entering the bounty.

We’ll feature a few in next Tuesday’s newsletter and zap 5,000 sats to our favorite Greek recipe.

This is how the table grows.

🛠 What We Shipped This Week

While the conversation grows, we’ve been busy in the kitchen.

Here’s what shipped:

1. Stronger Wallet Security: Your wallet backup phrase now includes an additional encryption layer. Your sats stay safer.

2. Publish Recipes Straight from Sous Chef: Extract a recipe with our AI Sous Chef? You can now publish it directly to Zap Cooking without leaving the page. Faster creation. Less friction.

5. Membership Dashboard & Founder Perks: A brand new membership dashboard so you can clearly see your status and benefits. Founding members now have lifetime access locked in.

We’ll keep building.

You keep cooking.

Together we keep this growing.

See you next Tuesday at the table.
