The no-coiner syndrome
As Bitcoin price goes up, there are many people who feel the urge to comment on it. Of course it is good that we have access to diverse opinions. I would like to point out one specific case and motivations and that is people with a no-coiner syndrome (NCS).
Someone that has a no-coiner syndrome is not just a no-coiner. They based part of their identity on the fact that they oppose Bitcoin. Some because it does not match their investment philosophy (Peter Schiff), some because he does not like carnivore maxis (NNT I guess), some because they oppose it on environmental basis, some because people who they do not like became rich and were just lucky (tm).
It is important to understand that no-coiner syndrome is a coping mechanism for internal pain and not a wise, coherent investment strategy. If you are investing (or speculating, whatever), it is wise to have at least some non-zero allocation in Bitcoin.
If you were listening to some of the no-coiners, always look at how their “advice” performed in the past. Yes, past advice does not guarantee future returns, but constistent past bad advice definite is enough to pinpoint someone suffering from no-coiner syndrome and we can safely rule-out their “advice”. If you were listening to Peter Schiff, you have missed on at least 100x gains. Does that mean that buying Bitcoin will guarantee you next 100x gain? Definitely not, but as Satoshi said: “It might make sense just to get some in case it catches on”. And it is catching on again. So get some.
How?
Peer to peer, definitely do not show IDs and definitely do not do bank transfers. Cash is king.
If it’s your first Bitcoin, get it in a Lightning wallet and play with it. Pay friends, use it online, get yourself familiar. It does not mean you should FOMO buy a lot, on the contrary, learn and familiarize yourself with it. With Lightning you don’t have to worry about history of the coins, on Lightning, there’s no history.
Here’s a free course (not even sign-up required) to get you started.
When you want to learn more, understand philosophy and use-cases, my book Cryptocurrencies - Hack your way to a better life has helped many people in navigating the space, optimizing on taxes and implementing Bitcoin in your lifestyle. It’s about much more than just knowing when to buy and when to sell - actually, the best strategy is not to make these decisions. Definitely don’t follow technical analysis influencers, don’t join telegram groups with trading signals (best is not to join any telegram groups for that matter).
Book available in English, Spanish and Slovak.
But even before the book, get experience.
