Chapter 2 - The Coin That Stayed

After school, Alex raced home and checked the desk.
The coin was still there.
Alex picked it up. It felt the same. It had not changed.
That day, Alex earned a little more money again. Helping Sam clean the family car. Not much - but his pocket had money again.
Sitting in his room, Alex put the money on the desk. One coin was moved to the side. The rest went into the pocket.
The pocket did not feel full. But something felt different.
Over the next few days, Alex did the same thing. As some would money came in. One coin was put aside. The rest went with Alex.
Sometimes the pocket emptied. Sometimes it did not. Although the money on the desk never did.
The coins were not spent. At least not for today.
One afternoon, Sam noticed the coins.
“You’re keeping some,” Sam said.
Alex nodded.
“How much?” Sam asked.
“One each time,” Alex said.
Sam nodded. “That’s enough.”
That night, Alex spread the coins out on the desk.
There was quite the tidy little sum. Alex smiled to himself.
