Meta’s AI voice dubbing races ahead on Instagram and Facebook as language support rapidly widens
Meta is accelerating its push into AI-generated voice dubbing on Instagram and Facebook, promising creators global reach while raising fresh questions about how automated translations will reshape social video.

The rollout began after Meta previewed its AI translation dubbing for Reels at last year’s Connect event. Initially, the company limited the tool to English-Spanish conversions, letting users “automatically dub your reels into another language” while using AI to match the dub to the “sound of your voice and the movement of your mouth.” Eligible creators could toggle “Translate voices with Meta AI” before publishing, add optional lip-syncing, and review the dubbed clip. Reels would then be surfaced in viewers’ preferred language and clearly tagged as translated with Meta AI.

From there, Meta moved to a broader language expansion. According to Instagram head Adam Mosseri, AI voice translations are now reaching far beyond Spanish. On Instagram, the feature is expanding to “Japanese, Korean, French, German, and Italian,” while Facebook users gain support for “Bahasa, Indonesian, Arabic, French, Vietnamese, and Thai.”

For creators, the shift marks a rapid evolution from manual captioning and subtitles to automated voice localization. Meta is targeting Facebook creators with at least 1,000 followers and all public Instagram accounts in this first wider phase, positioning the tool as a way to unlock new audiences without re-recording content.

At the same time, Meta is building in disclosure signals, adding visible tags that a video was “translated using Meta AI,” attempting to balance the appeal of seamless dubbing with transparency about synthetic media. As language options multiply across both platforms, the next test will be how accurately—and responsibly—the AI can carry creators’ voices across cultures.
