Anthropic Launches “Claude Tag,” an AI Teammate for Slack Anthropic is betting that Slack channels are the next place where AI will quietly become a full-fledged coworker, not just a chatbot on the side.

On June 23, Anthropic detailed “Claude Tag” in an official announcement, describing it as “a new way for teams to work with Claude” that starts on Slack, where the AI can “join as a team member” and be tagged with @Claude to take on delegated tasks while humans focus elsewhere. The company says Claude builds context by remembering relevant information from the channels it’s in and can plan out tasks to complete in the future.

Tech outlets quickly framed the move as the next step in Anthropic’s workplace strategy. TechCrunch called Claude Tag an “always-on Claude” that “lives in Slack and acts as an AI teammate,” available in beta for Claude Enterprise and Team customers. It emphasized that the service goes beyond earlier DM-style integrations by adding persistent context and memory, allowing Claude to automatically “gather facts from elsewhere in the organization” when granted permission.

The Verge highlighted the agent-like behavior, noting that Claude can “join as a member of a company’s Slack to write and merge pull requests, locate sales numbers, analyze data, take on tasks delegated to it, and more,” all triggered by tagging @Claude in-channel.

Later coverage underscored how this persistence changes team workflows. The Next Web described Claude Tag as an “always-on Slack AI that follows conversations, learns context, and proactively jumps in to flag updates and tasks,” adding that its “ambient mode” lets it step into chats unprompted to surface forgotten threads or relevant information across the organization.

Anthropic positions Claude Tag as part of a broader evolution of its tools, saying it makes the model “even more proactive” and better suited to working with a full team, rather than one-off chat sessions. Early internal use is already substantial: Anthropic says 65% of its product team’s code is created by its internal version of Claude Tag.

Outside the launch, developer chatter on X continues to revolve around integrating Claude with broader tooling. Hugging Face CEO Clement Delangue reshared instructions for using Claude Code with Hugging Face’s GLM-5.2 inference providers, reflecting growing interest in wiring Claude into diverse developer workflows beyond Slack.
