Nostria Update July 2025

We continue to innovate and improve on Nostria, we have about one month left to complete our MVP, Minimum Viable Product. We believe that within this month of August, Nostria will be in a great quality to be used by both new Nostr users and existing users.

The Algorithm

One of the recent new features to Nostria is the “Algorithm”. The algorithm is responsible for giving you a feed of events from your following list. On centralized social media, the corporations control what content you are fed. This is often done to promote content that keeps you engaged to waste time on their platform. It is not optimized to give you the content you are mostly interested in and from the people you prefer. Nostria’s algorithm is for you, and only you. It is running locally, all the data used is calculated locally, nothing is shared with third parties or with us. All the metrics that is used to perform the algorithm calculations, are in your control, and it depends on your usage patterns in Nostria. The people you tend to view profiles more often, the people you interact with the most, those are prioritized over others. When you have used Nostr for a while, you might have hundreds of people you follow. No Nostr client can possibly show you all latest content from all your following, so decisions have to be made. Those decisions happen locally in Nostria, not by people or AI, tasks with optimizing your time spent. We will continue to develop and improve the algorithm, here is a screenshot from the settings of the first version. algorithm.jpg

Feeds

We added the ability to list posts from your following; this is also the new default feeds. If you delete all existing feeds and reload Nostria, you’ll get the default feeds restored. following.jpg

Article Editor

We’ve made many improvements to the article editor, including the drafts listing. Opening drafts, will list all your drafts and allow you to continue editing them. This very article was written across multiple devices, over multiple days using Nostria. Both the article editor and note editor, will now persist locally what you are writing, so you can continue when you get back, even if you close the app or your device restarts. This is useful to make sure you don’t lose your value posts. To edit an already published article, there is now an “Edit” button at the bottom when viewing the article. drafts.jpg

Calendar

We added a prototype for calendar and events, it’s accessible from the “apps menu”, when you have “Preview” channel enabled in the settings. We see great opportunities in having event data on Nostr and having a Calendar feature in Nostria. It lists public events at the moment; in the future we will add capability to manage personal calendar and events. calendar.jpg

Messages

We have implemented support for both the initial variation of private messages on Nostr, and the more modern variations. The more privacy preserving chats is indicated with a small shield icon beside the profile icon. When you start a new chat in Nostria, you can choose which variation you want to use. To separate spam messages from other messages, we’ve added two options called “Following” and “Others”, as seen in the screenshot. messages.jpg

Image Cache Service

We’ve implemented our own image cache service, which dramatically improves the performance of our People feature, where all your following is listed. A lot of profiles on Nostr, has profile images that are many megabytes in size, and some are tens of megabytes of animated images. With our new image caching service, profile images can easily be optimized from megabytes, down to only 5kb. This feature is enabled by default but can be disabled in the settings under “Privacy & Safety”. people.jpg

Nostr Wallet Connect (NWC)

Under Credentials, we have added a new tab named “Wallets”. Here you can add your Nostr Wallet Connect connection strings. You can either paste it in the input and save it, or you can click the top search button and QR code scanning, then scan the QR code presented by an Nostr compatible wallet. At the moment, the only payment feature supported, is a donate button to donate $0.1. In the future, you’ll be able to zap notes posted by others, or even send money in encrypted direct messages. wallets.jpg

Languages

We have added the foundation for multiple languages, since Nostria is currently under heavy development, we won’t be translating the whole app yet. We are commited to supporting different regional languages, especially when we make official deployment into new regions with our Nostr infrastructure services.

Theme

We are experimenting with the theme colors of Nostria, at the moment they are monochrome, meaning without much of any colors, either light or dark. We will likely introduce a more colored accent in our theme again later.

Wrap up

As shown above, we’ve been busy working on a lot of new features and improving existing ones. There are other improvements not mentioned here, such as reliability improvements, code optimization and more. We are committed and dedicated to building Nostria and delivering an excellent app and service.
